what to expect when opening a 914-6 engine

Hi

I am about to open up a running but tired (compression and leak down yet to be confirmed) 6 cylinder engine from a 1972 914-6. Other than the conventional things to look for, what should I look for in a 2.0L magnesium case flat 6?

bad oil pump?
cylinders / piston clearance
crank shaft, journals, bearings
Rods bearings, bushings,
case / studs / warpage
cam shafts measurements
rocker arm bushings
valve job

It really should be the normal clearances of wear parts, etc. As the 2.0 liter engines were not very stressed in comparison to later engines, they seem to do pretty well. Depending on the compression and leak down numbers will guide you to possible problem areas if there are any.

Bruce Anderson's book "Porsche 911 Performance Handbook" and Wayne Dempsey's "How to Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 Engines" should give you all the wear information you would need.
