Single MSD 6A running twin plugs?

993 motor with standard 993 distributor and coils, 3.8 RSR P/C's, RSR cam.

Anyone run a single MSD 6A to fire both coils on twin plug? Talked with MSD and they were confident it would work. You just wire to one coil and jumper to the other.

Reason: If ignition dies, motor doesn't run, versus running two ignition boxes and one dies motor still runs and potentially damages itself.

Joe,

You can.....but you lose (half) spark energy. Look here:

They run quite well, we have about six twin Plug cars running single MSD Boxes and when we tried one car with a pair of boxes there was no discerneable difference.

It works.

Certain well respected engine builders here say you get more power when you run two MSD's.....

My race car has two MSD's and my engine builder wouldn't use two if there were not a reason to do so.

I have been running a single MSD driving two coils for twin plug on my RSR. No issues.

I have not seen any definitive data showing the benefit of twin MSD other than as a back-up spark source.

All it takes is a search....
