oil in heat exchanger
hello
This is my first post so please bare with me. I have a 73 911T that Im in the process of getting on the road again ,car has been sitting for 10 years in my garage undergoing a body restoration which is now ready for paint. the engine had 80,000 on it when bought (rebuilt) an smoked a little out of exhaust. now Im into the motor and was hoping to replace gaskets ( bought full set) and tidy it up but noticed oil in the heat exchangers. I found #1 and #6 cylinder head exhaust valves coated with crusty burnt oil. would this be a indication of bad valve guides or piston rings and what is the best way to check? was hoping to get by on the cheap and do the top end next year, I however found a guy that I can get some heads from that would get me by if its the valves. thanks Tom ![]() |

Could be either but also stem seals. Leakdown test would tell a better story. Would not bother with other heads unless he has a full set that has been serviced and cut to equal height and you have determined that to be a better option financially. Throwing in an odd cylinder head on these engines isn't as simple as it sounds as if the height is different from the others then you will have cam issues.
