Camshaft Gears - Reuse or Replace?
Currently ordering parts for rebuild. I know Wayne says in his book that timing chains should be replace but what about the camshaft gears? Are these generally replaced? The car has 95K on it.
Here are some photos. It is an early 993 so it has the gear with the pin holes. Some of the holes have a half-moon shaped wear. Is this something happening during manufacture? How to evaluate condition of teeth?

I'm about to face the same issue. I'll change chains but keep the gears.
My gear, like yours, looks good.

I believe the general wisdom with a drivetrain like this is to replace chains, cam sprockets and intermediate sprockets as a unit when possible. I'm no expert, and I can't offer a recommendation, but yours looks like it is showing some wear in terms of tooth length. The sprockets I pulled off of mine looked similar, but there were a few teeth worn more than the others. I replaced all, but I'm sure I could have run what I had for a while.

The side of the sprocket looks worn to me.
It would appear that the chain was running slightly off center. For longevity's sake...I would replace all components at the same time...I always do this on motorcycles...it's not worth the time and effort to take it apart a second time to do it right. Spend your money once...not several times. Bob

My gears look the same as the 2nd pic, intermediates don't show any wear.
I'm thinking of at least replacing the cam gears.

My feeling now is in for a penny, in for a pound. Hey, I'm in there already and it's only another $120 or so. I might as well restore the sub-system to new.
