First Valve adjustment Advice
With the help of material from this forum, I completed my very first valve adjustment on my SC today. It took me a good 6hrs (8hrs including spark plug + oil change lol). Because I was prob being over cautious, I suspect I may have left a few valves slightly looser than ideal.
So just preparing for the worst tomorrow when I start the car up : If I need to go back and redo the valve adjustment, do I have to re-drain all the oil? I usually have the rear of the car up on drive-up ramps. |
You do not have to drain the oil in order to do a valve adjustment.

Just jack up one side at a time & adjust that side. If you leave the car level, you will drain quite a bit of oil - the level is at least an inch or 2 above the bottom edge of the lower valve covers.

I'm going to advise that your try the "backside" method. You will need to take the tin off.
You can google the method on these forums. I tried it last week for the first time. I can't understand why the factory method is the other way. By the way - I checked the first few valves with the "standard" .004" feeler under the foot. A big difference in drag on the backside is hardly noticeable under the foot. |
