Stock 73S- Cam question? Change profile

Hello,

I have been rebuilding my stock 73S engine at a glacial pace. I am now ready to put in the cams and noticed that one of the lobes has a tiny pit in it.

I was thinking about sending it to Webcam (or should I go Elgin) to have reconditioned/welded up. If my engine is stock, should I consider any other cam profiles? I kind of like the peaky characteristics of an S engine, but is there a more modern profile that I should spend extra on to have done?

I did a quick search and saw some people recommending GE30 or GE40s but those were on hotter engines, plus I am thinking about going back to MFI, so I don't want to screw that up too much, I am reusing my carbs initially.

thanks for the advice,
Neil

The GE40, DC40, Mod "s" profiles will work well with the factory MFI. Gives you a little more mid range vs. the MFI -S. and a little more HP. Don't weld up the original S cams. Either have them repaired and use them, or sell them. John Bell is looking for a set I believe.
