Elgin race cams

I dragged some cams out that I have had for years and looked to try to ID the application. They are Elgin 304-286 w/ 5mm lift at overlap and when I look at the Elgin website and cam spreadsheet...it appears that they are a very aggressive cam. Interestingly, they have the MFI cam lobe on the left side cam. Anybody know what the application might have been? I also picked up with the cams some pretty aggressive heads that are single plugged, but the dome of each head has been filled in and machined. I guess a different way to get aggressive compression than pushing the dome on the piston head and cutting deeper valve pockets. I'd appreciate thoughts on what this package might have been used for on a 2.0?
I can add pics if necessary.

Lars, These would be very similar to a DC60 or GE 60 cam. Longer duration but not as much lift as some bigger race cams.

Got ahold of Dema...

He helped me ID the cams. Sort of a Mod S plus. Not so good for a small displacement. He recommended a 2.7-2.8 engine. Told me the lift was .476 I and .450 E. I have a 2.7 on the stand that is supposedly built to RS specs, but was running webers in my 914-6. I had thought it would be fun to replace the webers with MFI. These cams give me an excuse to do that, although I am curious what cams are in the engine now. So I guess I need to hang onto an S induction if I am going down that path.
Thanks guys!

I run a pair of Elgin 310-296 on my 2.7L track car, and they are a race cam for sure ... nobody home until 5500 RPM. I'd guess your cams are a notch below but still a pretty aggressive grind, especially in a small bore engine.

Anyone know what these are good for?

I have a set of Elgin 306-288 cams. Any thoughts on the size of engine these can be put in?

Depends on what you want to do with your engine That grind will be quite sporty in anything under 2.7L and may be a handful on the street (but a fun handful, in my opinion ...). Maybe more of a mild sport cam in a larger engine. That grind would really only work on a carb'd or aftermarket fuel injected engine. Motronic, etc. does not like the overlap in that cam profile.

What would you like to put them in?

I'm planning a 2.5L twin plug for a 914 project. These cams were installed in the donor six i bought. not sure if they will be O.K. in the 2.5 though...

I'd think it would be a pretty sporty engine for street use, but doable if you don't mind it being a bit finicky. Personally I like sporty.
