What Happens If...

well not really a if questions but what is the outcome if i put 3.0l turbo pistons on a 3.0l SC engine?

do i need to change anything besides adding a turbo (already have that in mind) anything else like connecting rods, cyl, ETC..

and what happens to the C/R if possible???

From another recent post, the exhaust valves of the turbo are made of an upgraded material, nemonic. Not sure about the pistons or anything else. What you can do is compare part numbers for the various internal parts.

I would think that any turbo pistons would be of lower compression than regular ones.
It makes sense...the turbo adds pressure...so the pistons have to be lower ratio to prevent detonation.

Probably need to make sure you have nikasil cylinders. Forged, non-plated turbo pistons are for nikasil only.

I looked at doing this a while back. the compression ratio was just too low. tried a lot of approaches to get the cr up, and a few would work, but it reaches the point of diminishing return. more trouble than it's worth.

these ones......

what about a twin turbo approach is that out of reach with the P&C too??

haycait911 05-05-2013 09:42 PM

oops. I mis-read. if you're putting on a turbo, then the p/c's make sense. I know nothing about turbo engines so I'll fade away and let others chime in.

There is no issue with adding twin turbos as far as the pistons are concerned.
The big issue is that the factory 3.0 turbo pistons only make 6.0:1 compression making it almost impossible to build an engine sans huge turbo lag.

well then what about stock cyl. and custom pistons giving C/R to 7.5.1 or 8.0.1?
