How to pick an engine builder
 

I'd like to think that I could rebuild my 3.0 myself, but the more I study the book, the more I think that I'd be better off giving it to someone who has done the job many times before. I'm not sure where to start. I've already pulled the engine apart and done a mock assemble using the old parts. I live in the Seattle area so I know there's plenty of qualified shops. Do I put together my wish list of components and ask for a quote. There seems to be so many variables. And advice?

I just had Henry Schmidt at Supertec rebuild my engine, and felt he did a great job and knows what needs to be done to the engine.

Give him a call and see what he says. I imagine that he cannot really give you much more than a general quote without actually seeing and measuring the parts. Labor is pretty much the same, but depending what parts need replacing can make a simple rebuild get out of control quite quickly if many need replacing.

+1 for Henry. He's built a couple engines for me and always does an excellent job.

If I were you, I'd be talking to some Seattle shops about your needs and objectives since there are several VERY qualified people right there in your fine city.

Do you want a hot rod or just a properly done stock rebuild? I could name half a dozen excellent facilities within 2-3 hours of Seattle that could do it for you without the trouble of shipping.
