Need a crank dimension for 66mm crank for speedi-sleeve install
What is the distance between the end of the crank and the face of the thrust flange?
Trying to determine what tools needed for speedi-sleeve install on end of crank. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1367858675.jpg Thanks neilca for the photo Here is the SKF speed-sleeve 99254 that neilca installed and found to be too long to fit over the end of the crank http://www.skf.com/iecng/productimag...18&language=en Looks like the 99254 is 22.99mm long. With the driving ring cut off, the sleeve is 19.99mm long. |
I measure 15.40mm from the flywheel face edge to where the radius starts and 16.25 mm from the flywheel face to the back of #1 thrust.

Thanks Mark! This is a big help. It means that the Speedi-Sleeve must be cut to fit over the crank, whether the driving ring is installed or not.
This is an off-the-shelf part from SKF, they don't really make it for a Porsche specifically. Or further outboard? 2. if you remove the flange, then what? how do you get the sleeve to move 3mm down closer to the thrust flange? You can't heat it, so say the instructions, as it may distort. 3. nor can you drive the sleeve on with a block of wood and a hammer, as it tends to buckle because it's so thin. 4. there must be enough clearance on the end of the crank to allow the flywheel's mating flange to clear. This measures at 4.0 mm. 15.40 - 4mm = 11.4mm width from the curve of the sleeve. So we end up with needing about a 10mm wide strip of steel on the crank for the seal to ride on. to shorten the sleeve is going to require a mandrel that is 65mm diameter and a big tubing cutter to make the cut, or a lathe. I don't have a lathe handy. |
