Cam gear alignment question.........

I am working on the cam gear alignment on my engine build. In following the instructions in Wayne's book, everything seems to work as it should. However, on the left side, he says to "measure from your straightedge to the left sprocket flange". Then he says "add 54.8mm to the value. This value should be equal to your first measurement". However, since the left side of the engine is "set back", shouldn't the instruction read to subtract the 54.8mm value? Doing it as a subtraction, the numbers come out very close to matching on both sides. The right side comes to 51.56mm and the left side 51.20mm. Everything is so close, I believe that I can move one shim from the left side to the right and everything will be happy. Your thoughts?

I'm using the Stomski cam alignment tool with the ground Starret straight edge and a good quality digital caliper to make the measurements. Pretty confident in the numbers.

Just went into Wayne's correction list and found the answer. The number should be subtracted! And, the shims are .50mm, not .25mm.

Maybe it is good to have events like this from time to time just to help exercise the ole' brain muscles!
