Not knowing the numbers because the paper work is not available the answer is 19mm thickness of the back where the alternator rests and bolts to. It started with the 1975 model year for the 901 part #. The 78/79 housing is too small for the fan but then the 80 to 83 SC will do your need.

ok thank for your answer.

It's quite complicated beacause there is a lot of 245 mm on sells offer and i do not know the compatibility annonce

Thank you tom !

With your post, i understand taht i can only take the 1980 - 83 SC or 78 - 89 3.3 turbo because de shroud casting are differents

You can use the earlier '75-'77 shroud. It has the correct alternator depth.

You can also use a '67-'74 shroud if you have the alternator mount face machined 9 mm deeper to allow for the larger alternator.

The crank pulley has nothing to do with the fan shroud.
If you would also use the fan, you would have to think about the pulleys.

Finally a single sheet that lists all the info on the confusing puzzle.

I have a cracked 83 SC shroud with alternator and a complete 71 E shroud with motorola. Since the alternator / recess specs don't match (discovered by trial fitting....school fees) I was thinking of swapping them with alternators attached.

After searching and reading about 5 different threads on VRs - that went right over my grade 9 electronics head - I found this answer.

Brilliant.
Thank you.

iiXii - So what's the problem? If it is the surface corrosion, you can clean that up. It's not going to affect the performance of the fan.

The usual reason to replace housings is that they have a big crack somewhere. Often in one of the three blade-like parts which holds the center housing to which the alternator attaches.

Is that a crack on the boss which holds one of the bolts for the ignition coil plate? If so, I'd think that could be fixed.
