oil pump pickup screen in 73.5

I have a stock oil pump from my 73.5 CIS Targa 2.4T project car and have been following Wayne's book for assembly. I am now at the point where it calls for the oil pump screen installation but no such part exists in my inherited cardboard boxes full of parts.

Did the 73.5 CIS use this screen and is it recommended? I realize this forum's sponser sells a kit but want to know if it is supposed to be on my car or not.

The screen under the oil pump pickup was used all the way into the SCs, then modified in later SCs..so you need one.

As I posted on another thread, the oil screen helps break up the air bubbles and increases cooling effect. We run screens in all our (non-Porsche) race engines.
