Head Studs
Hi. I posted this in Turbo forum but got no response.
I stripped down 930 engine from my hot rod project. It is a Saudi car and it was rebuild at one time with no expenses spared. Unfortunately due to a monster spring in a waste gate and hybrid turbo all cylinders had broken rings. Otherwise it is in nice shape. It has 3.4, 7.5 CR Yellowbird cylinders and pistons. I am refreshing it as a spare. It will be run with Carrera manifold and Haltek EFI. I will probably limit the boost to 1 bar. The engine has 993 fully threaded black head studs. The all look OK. They are suppose to be reusable. However there is a slight evidence of movement on cylinder to heads mating surface. So my question to the turbo experts is: should I spring for Supertech or APR studs, or can I get away with reusing the 993 ones? It is only my spare engine and I am trying to build it on a budget. Thanks Jerzy |
Jerzy I am not the know all of these but I would say to replace them with what ever you like.
I think if they starched once there done! Best of luck |
I would use the 993 studs, you need all 24 and you own them already. When they were $12 each, I would use them all the time, now at about $40 each, I have to find other options..
After that, I would go with the Supertec because I like the idea of the fine threads on the torquing outside. Bruce |
Does not seem like the place to economize.
