Easy to build engine tool.......
 

The round cap on the bottom and side of the block that hold in the two oil pressure relief valves can be difficult to remove. If the exhausts are not on the engine then a small pipe wrench will loosen them otherwise they can be difficult to loosen. I built a tool that not only removes these two brass "nuts" but also makes it easier to compress the spring to reassemble them. I used a 15/16" shallow 1/2" drive socket that just fits over the nut to hold a 1/8" thick piece of steel plate. I beveled the edges of the insert to be a light friction fit in the angle of the outer edge of the socket and then filed the working edge of the piece of steel so that it will fit the slot in the brass "nuts". Add an extension and now you have a handle to hold while pushing to compress the spring. Some pictures.

You may notice that the leading edge is scalloped to reach nice and deep into the slot in plug.

Made to order tools are great......if you have them! One thing my version does better is that it is self centering over the fitting. So, as long as you hold it tight against the block it won't get off center or lean. Besides, my tool basically cost me nothing since it was made from a piece of scrap steel. All I have invested is a few minutes of my time! Thanks for sharing your info and picture.

Great idea. I gave up trying to get mine off with a screw driver.
