Actually the green wire will only fit on terminal A

Big red wire on terminal B ???

Ground to terminal C ????

This would be a major screw up if I get it wrong. Can anyone please confirm

Thanks,

Chris

I recently removed my alternator for a rebuild. I initially installed an alternator with an internal regulator, but after some reading decided to stay with the stock setup,....voltage regulator on the back left wall of the engine bay and the alternator,..well,...you know where that is.

In doing this I had similar questions and the following is one of the straight forward responses which was helpful to me.

Each terminal is labeled and here is what should be attached at each of
those terminals.

B+ battery positive, fat red wire to starter terminal, and you should also have some smaller red wires to the 14-pin connector.

D- ground, this is a brown ground strap from D- to one of the bolts on the engine case parting line. Also some smaller browns to 14-pin.

D+/61 blue wire. This is used for excitation of the field and for feedback to the voltage regulator. It is the most important wire in the car.

DF Dynamo Field-- this is a black wire from the VR to the positive brush for the field. This is how the field gets energized.

Now, an internally regulated alternator such as the modern Valeo does not use DF. As such, you can tape off and safely tie the black wire out of the way. You remove the plug from the VR over on the engine electrical console and you are done.

Hope this helps.

Rich

I have the stock setup with the remote VR

My B & C are both maked B+ on the alternator So I have to assume they are the same and get the Red Wires. The green wire will only connect to C (marked D on the altenator). So the ground strap simply goes from one of the external bolts on the alternator to an engine case bolt.

Am I off?

Got it.

Red to B
Green to A
Black/brown plug in
Ground strap to outside of cone to stud at 4:00 position

Man, never thought this would be so complicated. Guess ther are so many alternators and different ways to connect.

Hope this helps someone down the road who searches

Chris

Just so you can double check your connections. I can't make out the Id's on your alternator from your picture. Heres a picture of my Marchal and a little info that may help you. The Green wire is actualy the heat faded Blue connected to D+/61. If you notice on mine, the brown ground wire is connected to a bare stud, the one on the left in my picture would be incorrect. It is insulated by fiber washers and is not a ground connection.
