Rocker shaft or the sealant between the heads and cam carrier.

If its the rocker I will clearly see the oil once I remove the cover?

Could be the return tubes, the oil will migrate to the lowest point.

ertech,
If the rocker is leaking, yes you will see it with the valve cover removed. It will pool some oil where it should dry. Had this happen to me, ended up being a rocker shaft that was broken at the groove on the cone end.

No oil in the lower cover rocker area
Can this come from upper cover rocker and migrate down there? Thanks |

As Crg53 said, it might be the return tubes - they look ok?
cheers, jt

Tightening the cam towers could help if they're not torqued correctly, and/or if they weren't sealed well.
As Bruce noted, it could come from the "rocker" (valve) covers. Did you ck them for flatness (mine were off by almost .012" between some of the stud holes!), and proper torque (only "5.9" ft-lbs). If they're not pretty flat, you don't want to rely on the gasket to take up the slack. And, if that's all they were torqued to, it's ok to snug them up a tad if they're slightly leaking... Have you got Wayne's rebuild book? It's got all these details in it... cheers, jt |
