CV Boots

I am replacing all 4 CV boots and the new boots seem like they are smaller and will really have to stretch to fit on the CV. Are all CV boots the same size?

The last time I did this I replaced the half shafts with CV's and boots pre installed. I had to use longer CV bolts as the joint were longer.

Before I kill myself getting these things on. Want to check that I have the right boots.

Thanks,

Chris

I couldn't get the 'correct' boots to work. I think I ended up putting 996 boots on mine. Sorry I can't remember more clearly, it has been many many years now.

What do you mean by smaller?

Boots come in two basic styles, more or less.

Some have the rubber crimped into the flange piece, so when you replace one for torn rubber you replace the whole boot assembly.

Some have the rubber attached to the flange piece with a steel strap clamp. With these you can replace just the rubber part.

Other differences in boots include bolt size and pattern. Some CVs take 4 10mm bolts and have two 10mm fixed pins. Some take 6 10mm bolts. Some take 6 8mm bolts. The boot flanges need (or at least benefit) from being right for the attachment system.

However, you'll get the best responses by moving this to the 911 list, as it isn't really related to the engine.
