Humpty Dumpty
This is my engine (the very beginning). Three places at once ;-) Put the case half back on the stand, installed the rods onto the new crank, drank a beer and admired my work... here we go.

Very nice...but I would suggest putting some rags or something in the intake ports...just in case of "lost" screws.

One bolt left.
The last part arrives today. The trans to case bolts are a needle in the hay stack. Should be up and running tomorow (can't work on it tonight). Spent a hour cleaning the plug wires.....how anal is that. Also lightly sanded the fly wheel (got the black stuff off it). Should all be good to go. Chris 73 911 E ![]() |

Good to see you are making progress again. Those small set backs can be very frustrating. I notice you seem to have a long extension on the air box oil drip tube behind the cooler. Was it that way when you bought it? It is usually fairly short with a rubber flapper valve to prevent un-metered air.
One of the things I like to do is a leak down test before the actual first start. While the results will be higher than after break in, it can give you an idea if a ring broke on installation or, on one occasion I found a valve that the machine shop missed that had to be redone.

I added the extension to prevent oil in the air filter box from getting on the starter and the rest of the engine. This way it drains to the bottom and burns off on the heat exchanger. The oil originates from the crank case breather.

First run was a dissapointment. Brought it back and found the timing way off. Second run was better but not perfect. Third run, Got the AFR meter working and it was running very rich. Leaned it out, syscronized the stacks and DAMN that's the ticket.
Car is a screamer. Have not taken it over 5k RMP's but it wants to go there. Only problem is it does not seem to be producing enouth voltage. The alternator light glows dimly when off idle. My radar detector says low voltage alert. Need to check alternator connections as a start. Chris 73 911 E+ |

Don't forget those ground connections, they could be the culprit of many electrical issues.

solved the alternator problem with a new voltage regulator.
Seems to have small oil leak on top of the engine. Replaced the oil pressure sender but still wet up there. Suspect the breather hose though it is clamped down pretty tight. Chris 73 911 E |

I've been poking around the forum and came across this thread. I've got a 69 911E in Picture #1 state and would love to see previous (<7/22/13) posts to this project. Were there any? If so, how to get to them? (I'm a newbie...
