Bench start / hot wire engine

I am tryng to bench start my 6 with carbs. I have fuel but no sparks.
I check the points and they are opening and closing. All grounds are connected. Positive is applied the positive side of the coil. The only thing I am not sure how to chck is the cd box. As far as I can tell the c box is powered from the positive side of the coil.

help!

The 3 prong CD gets power from the center of the 3 post plug in, 12 volt. The coil and the points are fed from the other outside white wires,

You have it a little backwards. The CDI is powered by the battery, and the CDI to the coil. It will hum when 12V is applied.

I understand a b and c is at the plug, what is d? I don't seem to have a d, the only extra plug I have is a ground from the harness

D is the ground tag on the bottom front as is the tag on the chain cover nut under the distributor. Your shield wire connects to the ground.
