money no object? $$$

lets play a little bit money no object how would you build a 3.0 n.a. motorhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382194021.jpg

well ... twin plug RSR MFI engine .

Here's an engine we built to test a new concept where no expense was spared.
This was a 2.5 SS, Ty rods, peanut heads and custom built slide valve system.
11.5:1 compression with flat top pistons to reduce the propensity to detonate that accompanies the standard Porsche hemi head.

Great thread and thanks Henry for the engine porn for us to all drool over.

Since I am in the process of piecing together by dream engine, I wonder how much a difference some of the stuff makes other than the neat machinery, bling effect. Can you tell the difference (say with the peanut head) in terms of power? Is the balancing to the nth degree detectable by mere mortals?

The hopeful part of me says yes.....but the little nasty guy on my shoulder says "don't bother". Love to hear stories from people who have experienced our rather more mundane engines that most of us have and the really wonderful mechanical artistry such as the stuff that Henry builds.

BTW, my dream build parts list (at least what I have on hand now is):

Brand new Carrera engine case
Brand new 74.4 Turbo crankshaft
Mahle 98mm Nikasil P/C's with 10.3 compression
Carillo rods
Turbo oil pump
964 steel intermediate shaft
Big port heads (930/03), dual plugged, titanium retainers
993 Turbo studs and nuts (sorry Henry)
Doherty DC35 cams with new rockers
PMO ITB intakes with MFI air cleaner assembly
SSI exhaust
Mark Montshagen ceramic coated fan/housing

All mounted to my 6 speed, in my heavily modded '89 chassis (backdate, no sunroof, removed drip rails),

Dennis

Dennis,
Aren't the SSI's too small for that build? I love SSI's personally, but always hear that they constrict the breathing on engines like you are contemplating.
I think you could get your money out of those easily & move on to a larger diameter set of headers, maybe even with heat...:)

Yes, they are a little small, but I am working more towards a good mid-RPM engine rather than a screamer, so it will probably be OK.

I just have never found an exchanger with good heat that I liked. I always wondered why SSI didn't make a version with 1/8 inch bigger pipes, but until they do, I will live with the cut in max hp in exchange for real heat plus beauty.

Advice from others seems to confirm that while the SSI's are little small but work well enough.....

Dennis
