Shop to check and maybe hone cylinders CT/NY/NJ region?

I'm using Anchor Atlantic for the headwork on my 3.2 rebuild but they don't do cylinder work and couldn't recommend anyone who does. Another poster said he used Verden Tool for his headwork but they too sent out the cylinders. Any suggestions of a Porsche experienced shop that will be able to guide me on alusik/nikasil, hone/replate/do nothing ?

This is a stock rebuild, 100k, good compression but burning oil so I'm hoping the bottom end is sound but it seems silly not to have it checked while I'm elbow deep. Still haven't gotten heads off (today hopefully) so not sure if they're alu or nikasils.

I'm in New Haven, the closer the better as I'd love not to pack these things up.

Any competent machine shop shield be able to check the cylinders for height, taper, wear and ovality.

Just bring a cylinder to a local shop and describe the measurements you need and the resolution of the measurements, and see if you get a good feeling about the machinists grasp of what you need....Verden will surely measure them for you....

If the cylinders are out of spec, honing will not correct excessive taper or ovality. This is where things get more expensive...overbore and re-plate, and new pistons, or a new piston and cylinder set, or a set used that are in spec.... That decision is drive totally by you wallet..

If your cylinders are out of spec and you chose to bore and plate, try Millennium Technologies for boring and plating

I do not think you can hone Mahle cylinders, if that is what you have. Just by hand with scotch brite

Plated cyls can be diamond honed for ring break in provided they meet wear tolerances. You will also need to measure the block spigots (cylinder base to case interface) for straightness too.

Honing should not be used to get the cylinder bores to a uniform diameter. It should only be used as a surface prep once the bores have been machined by a dedicated cutting tool.
