Are my pistons and cylinders junk?

78sc
apart for a valve job and resealing and general freshening without splitting the case (still hoping not to)

First bummer was finding that I had Alusil P&Cs
and then I found 24 Dilaver studs ( 24!)
now this:
Just pulled the #6 piston and measured the top land and I can slip an .008" feeler gauge in there ( at 6:00 if the wrist pin is at 3 an 9:00 )
.006 at 12:00

I haven't measured the others yet... it's about dinner time.

How many miles on the engine? It looks like your pistons are worn out. You could look for a used set of Nikasil or bite the bullet and put in a new set of Euro's.

...

the odometer shows 193,000miles 1978sc

but the car came with zero history.

Clearly the engine has been open b4 since the headstuds are dilaver.

what would a euro set give me?

9.8 compression, high test gas and a fuel injection head that needs to be replaced with the matching euro.
A good set of nikisil 8.5 or 9.3 cr will get you on the road.

The Euro pistons will give you about 9.3 actual compression ratio. I don't understand why you would need a different injection head. My race engine went from 9.3 pistons to 9.8 pistons and I didn't even need to rejet the carbs.
