request: dipstick tube pics

Hm. Maybe poorly worded title but that's what I need.

Recently purchased my first 911, a 69 T, and I'm slowly finding all the little frankensteins it's picked up over the years. Is this oil filler neck correct for my car? If so, isn't there supposed to be a little tube in there to hold the dipstick?

Might have to weld a piece in but in the meantime, if I'm trying to check my oil (car warmed level surface engine on) how far into the neck should I hold the dipstick to replicate where it'd sit if it had the tube I'm thinking it's supposed to have?

much thanks

josh

The proper neck should be readily available from a recycler.

Attached is a picture of a oil spout with dip stick for a 71 911T. I took the dip stick out a little so you could see. There is a tube that extends into the oil tank and the dip stick goes into the tube. I am not sure if this is the same as that for a 69T, but I suspect it is similar.

As flat6 said I image that it is readily available if your's is broken.

Dip stick

The ring sits just underneath the cap, with just a bit of clearance. You'll be close enough just eyeballing it, but I wonder what happened to the original tube.

Dip Stick

If you mean check the oil level, you can't. The stick is straight and bends as it goes down the tube. So unless you could do the geometry, it would be near impossible to figure out where it ends up to get an accurate reading using a straight dip stick. As long as it is close, the oil level gage reading is about ok and the oil pressure is ok, you will be fine until you get the proper oil neck. I can't imagine that it is expensive.

Do you even have a dip stick? I have heard of folks missing the tube and having the dip stick end up in the oil tank.

Oil Tank question
It may be of some help although this is an '86. Let me know if you need any measurements.
Cheers.....

The later uses a 930 part number dipstick. The correct dipdtick is pictured above.
