Mismatched Heads
Well I think I've seen it all...
Started a clean up on my 2.7l CIS engine, from usual leaks during a transaxle replacement. While I had it as a long block I decided to take as many notes on what I had in this engine... Turns out to be a lovely mismatch of parts. I have on the right side 3 X 76 heads with 35mm intake ports and 2 X 73 heads with 32mm ports and 1 X 74 head with 32mm port. I still need to do some more looking on the cylinders. But they are at least all from the same height group (5). How is it possible that this engine was running smoothly??? |
 Motormeister rebuild???

I have no idea where that engine came from...

That's not uncommon anymore, given how old these are and how many people have worked on them. FYI,.....heads do not have "height groups"; cylinders do. Heads are normally resurfaced during a proper valve job to ensure they have the same chamber volumes so deck heights are uniform. |
Hi Steve, exactly what I was thinking Frankenmotor! Lucky for me I also have the original motor but did not expect to find that in this one...
I meant the cylinders are in the same height group but I still need to figure out exactly what they are... I did not see much other then the (5) and a 1 stamped on them, they have 11 fins. Since I'm building another engine for this car, I think I will leave this alone for now and just clean it up (its been like this since '01). |
