Intermediate shaft.

I am putting my 1978 911SC engine back together. I could not find the aluminum plug that goes into the back of the intermediate shaft and so had one ordered from Porsche. I notice that it is not an interference fit, but slides in rather easily. It is secured by a circle clip. When the engine is running and the oil pressure is up some oil in the hollow shaft will come by the plug. Is this by design? Should I install the plug with some red or blue locktite? I could not find anything about this in the Porsche workshop manuals.

Regards,

John

The circlip is all you need. Doing something simple like this is not the kind of thing the manual writers thought a trained factory mechanic would need to look up.

Thanks for the info Walt. If in doubt I'll ask the question. I don't want to screw up when building a $10,000 engine.

John

The value of Wayne Dempsey's book is that he is writing for the likes of most of us, who are not factory trained, or even professional mechanics. So he details what the factory might skip over by saying "installation is the reverse of removal" or the like. Don't know if he talks about this, though.
