what is this, its leaking,...what O ring do I need
|
I believe that is the set bolt for the spray bar in the cam tower. 6mm copper or alum crush washer.
|
They are usually installed very tight as they are 10mm fine thread.

I cleaned everything off with brake clean, removed right side engine tin, HAHA bolt was finger tight and no crush washer. I started engine and just watched as it pissed everywhere. So happy I was able to track this down. |
is there a torque setting for this bolt?

Tight enough to crush the washer
Bruce |
The spec is about 40Nm but I agree that it should be just tight enough to crush the washer, and no more, It is to stop a leak and not to hold up any substantial weight. If you use a new washer, you will feel it when it is being crushed and stop.

I suspect I may have the same situation with my newly rebuilt 81sc motor that has been spotting a few drops on my floor just under that same bolt position. I know there are a few other possibilities, but I believe the chances are good that this bolt and washer were not appropriately attended to.
What location (relative to the suspect bolt) did you find the oil drops on your floor? Where else on the motor did you see this leak migrating to (and confusing your diagnosis!)? Lastly, if this is in fact the cam spray-bar mounting bolt, would completely removing it (to replace the washer) while the engine is still installed, cause any internal issues with the spray bar? Thanks for posting this discovery as it may indeed relieve me from years of grumbling! |
The bolt has a point that locates the spray bar correctly and the spray bar wont turn without a concentrated effort.
Pull the bolt, install washer and replace. Tighten to crush washer. Bruce |

I had replaced both upper and lower valve cover gaskets, and oil cooler rings, and nothing. still leaking. I took everything apart while I was in there installing new heat exchangers. I left the right side engine tin off the car. Sprayed everything with two cans of brake clean so it was spotless. Fired up the car and the thing was PISSING, about a drop every two seconds. That bolt was literally finger tight with NO washer. I put new crusher washer in today, fired up, all good. I just hope the added oil pressure doesnt cause a leak somewhere else now:mad::mad::mad::mad: |
Nice! one step at a time sir, one step at a time....
Thanks for responding, I will look into mine. Cheers, Bill |
