Can't find serial number

How common is it when a 3.0 1978 SC engine (well I assume it is...) doesn't have a serial number?

I know it should be on the right side of the fan, but nothing there. No traces of grinding that indicates removal.

Wayne's book said something about a non-numbered replacement casing.

Really would like to know the exact specifications. Guess will have to wait until it's in pieces.

At least you have big runner for 78 but wrong shroud it green .

Looks red to me. If there is no 930/xx number by the pressure sender, its probably a replacement case.

Actually, used to be green. Also, picture of place where s/n should be.

At first look you have replacement case but it hard to tell a 100% and i dont the internal desing near pressure sender but a better picture would speak.

If there is no number on the fan support but there is a designation number on the case near the oil fitting, then the number has been removed.
If the is no designation number, it's a replacement case.

About half of the 78 SC fan shrouds I've seen were repaints. My guess is left over 77 2.7 parts.

Thank you guys for your input. Will check for a designation number tomorrow. And for the painted shroud, could not care a bit what it is was to be honest....

Just finished taking her apart. For sure an interesting exercise!

Found out we got 5 broken head studs, few broken exhaust studs, no updated chain tensioners, trashed headers, alusil cylinders and yes! turbo lower valve covers Yeah..! (stock uppers...)

I can't believe we drove it from Seattle to BC without a problem! Chain on the left side had about 1/2" slack, muffler was hanging on less than 1" steel and oil looked like dark syrup!

Now the fun part...! Find some nikasill with new Jr pistons? LN Nickies? 3.0 or 3.2...?.964 cams? Headers! PMO's....! Lightweight flywheel....

Do I really need 2 kidneys...?
