complete 993 engine without case, what to do?

Just received a package of 993 engine parts.
I bought this because I need a set of 993 HEs for my 88 conversion.
In first step I didn't care that much for all the other parts, but after
the 2 wooden crates arrived and the parts seem in very good condition,
I asked the seller for the history.

It came out, that this engine was never on the street.
The car was damaged before delivery and the engine went to a school/ university
on a test bench.
Later, when the proffessor retired, he took the engine with him and disasembled
everything just for fun...
I was told, that the case was stolen just for the aluminium :-(

I agree, that the story sounds unbelievable, but the parts condition fit very well in that story.

On first inspection, it seems that this is a complete engine without case and a few parts missing.
What we have: crank, p+c, rods, heads, cams, intake, exhaust, complete wiring, distributor, fan/alternator,
starter, lots sensors, maf, throttle body, clutch/flywheel, oil pump, plastic covers...
Definitly missing: case, Cpu, cam towers, probably many screws...

What to do with that kit?
Should I try to find a case? Try to find all the missing pieces?
... but I feel not well separating all that stuff, because it belongs together.

It seems to be a early 993 engine, 94/95 probably.
Mileage? Zero, but some dyno hours for sure...

Any ideas?

Thanks
Falk

Engines end up in schools all the time.
I would consider buying a worn out or broken 3.6.
You would then have all the parts needed for a 1st class rebuild. All the missing parts and screws.
new PCs ,crank etc etc . You should only need a gasket set, some sealants and maybe head/case studs if you want to.
