2.4T Engine Upgrade/Build
 
Hello all!

I have a 1972 911 T.V ( ROW) 2.4l engine that i would like to finish rebuilding and upgrade. I have searched around the web on possible things to do to the engine to boost performance but i am still confused as to what would be the best route for mostly street driving with the occasional track day (to keep car alive).

options:

Keeping stock 7R case and rods and swapping P/C's for 2.2 T P/C's. Can i keep my T cams with this setup? or can i bore out my existing P/C's a little further?

Keep stock 7R case, rods, P/C's, and swap out cams for E Cams

or is it possible to increase everything to a 2.7 spec by using Solex Cams, 9.5 JE'S, and 40mm webers for fuel delivery?

These were some of the most popular choice i have researched on. Has anyone done any of these to their 2.4's? Once the engine is rebuilt i plan on keeping it in 911 for a while (until i find a reasonable 3.2 engine) then putting it in my 914. All help is greatly appreciated!

most expensive and most hp and torque is to send case for boring for 90 mm p/c adding solex cam. re set your mfi (you have mfi right?) mfi is better than carbs in many ways one of which should be better gas mileage. I get 12 to 19 mpg with above set up (40 mm carbs). Its a pain to get gas every 150 miles. I am also assuming you have 32 mm intake heads so you should look for 75-77 2.7 heads with35 mm intake or bore out your heads. cheaper but also pretty good would be option number one with higher cr pistons on nickie cylinders and e cams. you could get je pistons with 9.5. best henry

This is the route I'm going. 72 "T" has dismal compression: 8.0-1 (specs here). I'm opting for the 86mm (up from OEM 84mm) AA cylinders with JE piston (pretty close to the 2.2E spec, I think) resulting in a 2.5L with ~9.5-1 CR (good for single plug/pump gas). The case will accept slightly larger P/C's without modification. E cams will work well with the T/E 32mm ports. You should end up with a very street able car with a good bump in all around performance for the $$ involved. Of course, your fuel system will require tuning for the cam/CR changes.

And, I'm opting to have nikasil plated on the brial AA cylinders, something you should look into as a precaution while using the non-OEM AA stuff.
