Flywheel end crankshaft seal position - help

After installing my seal at full depth when I had the case split I have seen posts that advise against this. I have a theory why and I'd like some experienced help before I pull the seal and replace it.

My theory is that if the seal is fully inserted in the case recess there is a possibility the seal lip (5.5mm in from the seal edge) is too close to the inner flange of the crankshaft (distance represented by green lines in the photo). Or am I overthinking this?

My thought on that is when inserted all the way the crank outside the seal can become contaminated and not be able to use the next time anywhere on the crank but all the way in.
