Stock or oversized squirters? Early or late style?
Looks like a couple of my SC squirters are being stubborn despite by best efforts to get them flowing. As of now, im building the motor with a stock SC oil pump and planning to use cam line restrictors. I might upgrade to a turbo or 964 oil pump should I find a good one in the near future.
I have two main questions... 1. Are people using stock sized or oversized units when replacing them? 2. Are 964 or turbo units a good upgrade? Thanks |
Ive been told if you upgrade the squirters youll need a larger pump ie turbo or 964/993 pump. Dont quote me ... I just remember reading it somewhere in one of the pump threads over the years. I was going to change mine out in my 993 build but they worked. I was told the case machining wouldnt hurt the squirters. If they work they work. I have seen some threads on removable squirters as of late. That would be a very good upgrade if you need to be able to clean the case later with out drilling them out.

JB Racing makes a removable squirter assembly. Basically a set screw that is drilled to size on the ID in order to capture the squirter with bearing retainer compound. Really smart idea of Mike & co. to make them removable.
Squirters are 1.0mm for the "normal" engines, 1.5mm for the 930/turbo, 2.0mm for the 964-up engine. There's some info on this forum about it. I recall reading a thread that provided the sizing I mentioned above. Do a search and you should be able to discover something. I chose to use 930 squirters on my 3.0L i'm building for sprint racing. 964 pump is going to be used. I figure the use of the cam housing restrictors + a larger piston squirter should dedicate more oil to the squirters/bottom end and help with cooling the pistons more than the original 1.0mm squirter and SC pump |
These removable units sound interesting... I will give Mike call...
