parts choice
Hi all,
first message here so short introduction. I own an early 964 C2 and live in switzerland. Have been owning the car for 4 years and recently decided to go for engine rebuild after increasing oil leaks in, let's say intensive use ( track day ) ENgine is now dismantled and have to make the expensive spare parts order ... I want to stay stock ( except upgrading to RS flywheel after discovering my car still had the old crappy Freudenberg DMF...don't want to take the risk ) Looking at genuine parts prices at Porsche, some of them ( important ones like piston rings and rod bearings ) are up to 4 times mores expensive that well known and with good reputation online shops.... Those shops tell me parts come from same supplier so no problem... But I can't stop thinking maybe Porsche is applying stricter specifications in term of tolerance to suppliers and taking only the "best" parts...the rest being sent as second choice to other sellers.... Question is, does anybody know if such a big price gap is justified by higher quality or if it is just silly business from Porsche dealers?.... Usually, when you guys rebuild engines at standard specs , do you buy at Porsche or to good and well known shops? thanks SmileWavy |
Though there may be some quality differences, most experienced builders seem to have a good idea of which parts are good to use.
You will read of the cost of parts from the Porsche dealer as having the 'Porsche Tax' applied to the parts.;) |
Bearings, gaskets are both areas where I would go to the dealer or Opc.
