What are the best replacement Headbolts for a Euro spec 1977 3.0 engine? The car is a '77 911 Carrera 3.0.

The original had dilavar , i quess the replacements are suppose to be better? big difference in price on the steel and dilavar.

I have four sets of Dilavar you can have for free. Does that tell you something?
|
I get the message, will the std(standard) steel hold up for a stock 3.0 with no modifications for the long haul?
|
Steel studs will be fine for a stock rebuild

Thanks

I added 12 new 993 Dilavar in the bottom, when i rebuild mine in 2006 . I'm convinced a little bit different here - When Porsche still after many years, also with negative success with Dilavar during the years, they might have an idea with it, so therefore i used the newest coated full threaded OE 993 items.
I know there are many many opinions on this here, but maybe i'm just a bit Authoritarianism to Porsche :-) It could be interesting to ask one of the responsible Engineers at Porsche : " Why did Porsche offer so much energy on development of these fasteners ?" I think i've head someone here on the board saying that time - when using the high tensile after marked items, it should/could be necessary to re-torque them ?? I this is the case, it is also an argument for me to select factory items for use in a more ore less std. road engine. Roslin |
I wouldn't use Dilivar in an old lawn mover. But hey, that's just me.

What goes Bing! in the middle of the night?
According to B.A. he had them break brand new on the engine stand.. Its just good information to consider. |
Supposedly the 993 fully threaded Dilivar studs are more robust than the earlier Dilivar studs. I have no experience with these. I can say that I have seen stress corrosion fractures in Dilavar studs in all applications including the 3.6 964 engines.
I have never seen a fractured steel stud. Just my experience. |
