Need Engine rebuild gurus help Please
Hi im building a 3.2 mild race engine and have a crank that is in spec, case that is in spec but the NEW Glyco std bearings are under spec .004 to .005 ".( when measured by Plasigauge or micrometer .i want to get back to .002"
Does any one know the thickness of the red ,yellow or blue GT3 main bearings? Are these thicker than std Glyco replacement bearings? It has been suggested that try the Blue Gt3 bearings? Thanks John |
John, I don't know why folks are not responding, but you may want to try just calling Steve Wiener or Henry at SuperTec. They are both very helpful can explain in much more detail over the phone than on a forum.

When I did my motor, the measured clearances on the mains came out to between 0.0029 and 0.0033, but the Plastigauge averaged out around 0.004. My hot oil pressure is fine though. I'd rather be a bit loose than a bit tight.

are your bearings too big or too small?
|
Hi the glyco mains are too small
|
I had my 993 crank redone by Marine Crank after a spun #5 rod back to Std/Std. I got gylco yellow GT3 bearings that were coated by Calico. My clearances were .0015"-.0018" via plastigage. Majority were .0015" with two being .0018" ie plastigage bigger then .002 but smaller then .0015".

Tony, I was only trying to help the guy out. SlowCar had posted similar question in two other threads and had not gotten a response. I thought I would at least TTT this thread.
Hope you have a better day too. |
There is no need to apologize, the OP was asking for an engine guru, not a qualified Porsche technician or racing engine specialist, going by his question in the post all he needs is anyone with the knowledge of the thickness of GT3 bearings and Glyco bearings. A parts counter guy could be all he needs as long as he has the info needed.

What oil pump are you running?
