Valeo Voltage Regulator

I just ordered a replacement Valeo volage regulator for my 86 Carrera from Pelican. It arrived in a green Valeo box. The regulator has part number H640437A Made in China stamped on it. The box has a sticker with W082-00N Made in France. I am pulling the alternator to replace my cracked fan housing and thought I would change out the voltage regulator as preventative maintenance as it has 45000 miles on it. The original alternator was replaced at 45000 miles. Now I am wary of replacing the regulator with something that is "Made in China" and possibly not a real OEM part. The fact the the box says made in France and the actual regulator says Made in China is to me a little misleading.

Any thoughts......

chuckle... ;) that is an issue we face with these old cars. Many times the quality/build of a new replacement part is much less than the original not so worn out part.

For myself, I try to keep as many original parts as possible for just that reason. If you decide to install the new part, keep the old one as backup and mark it as "good" so it does not get thrown out.

^Agreed with regard to electronics. The generic aftermarket voltage regulators often have extremely soft brushes. No exaggeration that I installed a generic on my Audi and it was completely gone in 7k miles. I replaced with Bosch the second time I did the job.

Thanks for the comments! I totally agree. I just bought a new Valeo (Paris Rhone) alternator. they are now discontinued and getting hard to come by. When I replace the fan housing I plan to install the new alternator and keep the old one as a spare. Hopefully I will never need to use my new "made in china" Valeo voltage regulator.
