3.6 deck height adjustment
 

I searched for 3.6 deck height, but no luck. I have to build a 3.6 in which the heads have been rebuilt. Ofcourse there is an o-ring under the cylinders, so how do you adjust deck height? Are shims nevertheless used?

You can't shim the 3.6 cylinders so deck heights are set by making sure each cylinder is the exact same height and the heads are resurfaced to precisely the same depths.

Its a job for your machinist.

I had this same problem. My cylinders were replayed. New je 10.5 pistons and rebuilt heads to rs spec. New RR rods. And kverhauled crank. Its a 993 spec engine. My deck came up at .030 inch. One came out to .034 and the another was .028 iirc. I measured countless times came up the same via a depth mic. I didn't have a chance to move the pistons around to see weather the issue is rods or pistons. I'm curious I'd I swap the high an the low if it fixes it. The average r the two is .030. Go figure. I guess I'm going to look at having the race track machined. My case was spot on. I was told you can shim like the older engines just use curlT and don't use the viton oring. LN recommended that along with another big engine builder. I'll be back home in a week to pick back up where I left off.

There are two possible sources for 3.6 shims, Jerry Woods and Ollies. I have not called to confirm that they still have them.

An interesting alternative may be base shims from the GT-3. They come in .01" and I think .02"

However, they are not a perfect fit. There are a few spots that may require sealant.

Thanks Aaron. I know of a couple places to get 100mm shims. My deck height are .031'' with one low at .028'' and one high at .034''. Ive swapped the offending pistons side to side with no improvement. So it doesnt seem to be the pistons. I have a spare rod I can put in the mix to see if that helps. Other then using shims I dont know what else I can do to get my .39-.40" deck. Machining the cylinder makes this worse and shims are needed even more. They have been replated. New JE pistons and new H beam RR rods. I also need to measure the cylinders to make sure they are the same height. I couldnt not find anything a miss with feelers and a strait edge.
