Sport muffler upgrade for '85
I have just rebuilt the engine on my '85 3.2, and i'm trying to upgrade the exhaust to match the new displacement, cam, etc. I have new RSR replica headers (no heat exchangers) and a Dansk 2 in 1 out muffler. After changing the oil lines, i expected the new muffler to bolt on. What I have found is that the indent (or "relief") on the older style muffler is not sufficient to fit around the engine mounting attachment at the crank. See original muffler:
![]() and Dansk: ![]() Do I have the wrong muffler? Do I need to modify if slightly (with a hammer) to make it fit? Anyone have experience with this setup? Suggestions are welcome. |

I had a similar problem - my bodyshop were unwilling to use a hammer so they ended up removing the seam on the muffler/silencer where the bracket interfered.
I also used 10mm flanges as spacers between header and muffler inlets to add further clearance. ![]()
