993 3.6 to 3.8 ?
I have piston wear so time for rebuild for my race car .
The engine is a standard 993 engine running 50mm PMO's attached 915 box . 1.Do I keep it 3.6 ,but upgrade to 3.6 race pistons JE ? and upgrade to a racecam? and can you use existing cylinders ? 2.Increase to 3.8 race P/C + race cam ,what does this cost in parts and is it an easy job ? cheers Dave |

You need to measure your cylinders to see if they are still in spec. Both height and dia. IF they are good you can have them replated for about 1/2 the cost of new LN cylinders. They can do the plating as well. If you need to replace the cylinders and your pistons are trashed then there is really not more added cost to go 3.8 unless you decide not to go slip fit and need to machine the spigots. I am building a 3.6 993 right now and decided to keep it a 3.6. The engine should put out ~300-340hp with carbs and a hotter cam. I got JE FSR pistons and had my cylinders replated. In the end I ended up dropping about 100gms off each throw with lighter pistons and rods. If you go hotter cam then a RS IIRC then you really need to backdate to mech lifters etc. I had to do this too. If you get a cheap set of sc lifters you can send them to John D. and he will convert them to be used with 993 cam towers for $300-400 for the set. Includes rebushing and regrinding the pads for the right angle. ITs a whole lot cheaper then buying 993 RSR lifters.
