Oil Thermostat Housing Stuck!

Hello Everyone,
I am working on a 1969 2.0 T motor that has been exposed to some water and the oil thermostat will not come out of the crankcase. Any suggestions other than the normal heat and penetrant routine. I heated the bear crankcase up to 180 degrees in a big parts washer tank big still no movement. Any ideas?

When I removed the nuts that were holding my engine's thermostat it too was stuck. Instead of prying it loose and possibly damaging the thermostat or the crankcase I used the wooden end of a hammer around the seal and tapped it loose. After a couple of taps around the thermostat housing it popped loose.

Pull the studs out and see if you can get it turning a bit to break it loose.

On a related note, check the block threads for the T-stat studs, particularly the mag cases.

I installed a Carrera fender cooler and a couple of weeks later, had the t stat pop up out of the block all by itself, hosing everything with 13 quarts of synthetic and leaving a massive white cloud behind the car.

Clearly, at some point, the t stat studs had been overtightened and pulled.

Do not let this happen to you.

The cost to fix is not high, but the "as long as" stuff can get spendy.

HTH,
chris

I'll pull the studs and try to give it a twist tomorrow. Thanks for the input.
