Failed IMS

Finally purchased my dream car. Not new but still my dream car. Its a 2001 911 Carrera 3.4 liter 996.
Had a PPI done and was given a clean slate. It has 88,000mi. I was aware of the IMS issue but took a chance and purchased the vehicle. I drove the car less than 500mi when the IMS bearing failed on Christmas day as I drove up PCH with my wife. I was totally devastated.

I know the history of the car and bought it from the original owner. I want to keep the car and would like to have this engine rebuilt or find a rebuilt. I live in Long Beach California.

If anyone has any suggestions as to where to look I would greatly appreciate it.

That's terrible news. Sorry I can't help but I hope you'll soon be driving again.

That sucks for sure. Hergesheimer would be a safe bet. Hergesheimer Motor Sports - The most comprehensive Porsche service and race shop in Orange County.Home.

They have a good reputation and have been around for a very long time.

Sorry about your troubles! Most of us that have been dealt a Porsche engine rebuild for one reason or another, understand that sinking feeling!!!

I'm sure this is not what you're looking for, but this struck many of us as an interesting and viable "solution"; LS conversion. Starting you off on page 5, with the arrival of the crate engine, but you can see the OP's IMSB carnage on page 1. It's good to know all the options:

Pretty bummed about this... imsb

Watching the progress unfold in the subsequent pages, really won over a lot of "purists" who originally thumbed their noses at the project.

And if you did locate a used and working 996 engine, you could always ensure this was installed:
