1973 911T Rebuild
With the various configurations to rebuilding the '73 911T engine what are the current thoughts for the most drivable car for the road. Stock, E/S spec, RS spec, etc?
|
Mikey,
The most driveable option would be the stock 2.4T engine, provided that the CIS is in top shape. :) Its docile, not fussy about fuel and VERY durable. No external oil cooler needed, either. Now,...if you are looking for more performance, you have many options at your disposal including such things as making it a 2.4E, 2.4S or a 2.7 in T, E or S configurations. None of these are cheap to do, if you want this correctly done so your budget is really what will frame what is possible or not. :) :) |
Thanks for your input Steve. I neglected to include the engine has MFI in good shape. The budget is not limitless but, putting that aside for a minute I'm looking for more seat of the pants performance. Maybe just new pistons and cylinders with higher compression without going the 2.7 route. Even an E performance is desirable to a T or S.

I'm going down the "T to E" road now.
-New P/C's, 46mm 2.2E spec will boost C/R to roughly 9.5:1 and give you a 2.5L motor -T cam can be reground to E or if you get a set of core E cams, grind to Mod Solex -Recalibrate MFI to new c/r and whichever cam you get I considered the mod solex route but folks wanted crazy money for knackered E cams. It was a "stop the slippery slope" decision. I'm good with E spec... |
I have access to LN 87.5 Nickies and JE 9.5:1 pistons for my 1973 but, before I buy I want to make sure this will work. Will I need to do any head work. I think the case should be able to handle this without machining correct? I know I'll need a cam regrind and MFI calibration. Thanks
