Getting ready to rebuild a 2.7, looking into machinists
I've got my 2.7 taken apart for a full rebuild. Looking for machinist recommendations. I'm in Nor. Cal.,
But I don't mind shipping to get it done right. Any help is appreciated. Jeff |
Just dont use your Joe avg shop !!
Superteck is one, Olies and others Dont be scared to ship it Clewitt engineering and others. |
I was pleased with the work that Craig Garrett (pelican handle "cgarr") did for me.

Ollies--great guys, great work.

Oh and
Have them do every stud on the cases...ALL OF THEM. Mag cases pull studs. Deck and chamfer the thru bolt holes. Mag cases ovalize the holes.
Don't ask me how I know. |
Take it down the street to Jerry Woods. You won't regret it. He taught the "how to rebuild a 911 engine"'class with Bruce Anderson for many years before the latter passed. Rip Bruce. Spoke to Jerry yesterday. Alive and kicking and modernizing some of his techniques.

The 2.7 is a great platform once done right. There are quite a few updates that have to be executed to have it right.

Ted Robinson at German Precision. He is in San Jose.

I was referred to Engine Machine Services in Inglewood and shipped them parts from Oregon for work. Very easy to work with and provided top-quality machine work at a reasonable price.

Thanks for all the replies, appreciate it when you provide their location, a few I couldn't find.
Looks like I've got some phone calls to make. Thanks, Jeff |
No one has yet mentioned Competition Engineering in Lake Isabella, certainly in the top five if not the best. Walt Watson knows his stuff, did my 2.7 years ago.

I had C.E. On my list, looks like it's between them and Jerry Woods. Jerry's only 2 hrs from me.....so he may win
|
Jerry Woods only does full rebuilds, not machine only jobs. So I've got a call into Walt, looks like it will go to competition engineering.
Thanks, Jeff |
Try calling Bob Grigsby at RMG in Campbell. While he doesn't do the work in house he may be able to recommend a local Bay Area machinist.
The issue with the big name guys like CE is lead time. |
Doing it right trumps lead time every time, IMO.
The Cap'n |
+1 for Jerry Woods, also consider AASCO Motorsports in Anaheim. They build nothing but high-performance race engines including 935s and GT3 Cup engines. Ask for Randy, great guy.
|
Thanks for all the replies, I'm not looking for an engine builder just machine work. I don't have a problem with waiting to get it done right, so I'll stick with competition engineering, heard nothing but good about them from multiple sources.
