Any experience with Darton Sleeves in air cooled barrels?
Hi Folks, I do have a set of 100mm Vellios barrels that is oval in shape due to use in a high boost turbo engine...definately beyond useable as is.
Would be great to give them new life, and I see that Darton Sleeves can suppy sleeves that dimension wise will work (I do have a Lathe in my garage and can do the resleeve job myself). ...but is it a way to go? The plan is to build a 3,5 NA motor with GE80s and CR about 10,5:1. Street use and random trackdays. Any experence with such sleeves? Please advice ![]() |

I used Darton sleeves in a VW race engine...bored out the old barrels...heated the barrels...froze the sleeves...and installed with green locktite (tough stuff).
The result...engine performed very well..no problems...made great HP. The engine was rebuilt every winter...and last I heard...was still racing in another mans car. So...I highly recommend them. But...make sure of the interference fit...or you will split the aluminum when the sleeve and barrel heat normalise. Bob
