78 P&C to be used in 82 911SC
Hello All,
My son and I are taking on the task of rebuilding a 82 911SC with approx 200k miles. found myself in the situation many have with the Alusil Cylinders. Have been looking to purchase a good used set of Nikasil. Here is the question. I have found a used set of 78 P&C's and need to know if there are any issues with using these in the 82? Was planing to go back to stock using the CIS system but need to know if this will work, or what would need to be done to make it work? Thanks for your help. Jeff |
78' has a lower compression ratio. 8.5...i think? 82 has 9.3. I guess it would work but you will be down on performance.
if you are open to other options, you can get your Alusils bored and plated to Nickasil. I had mine done at EBS and purchased some 9.5 JE pistons to match. There are other places that can do this as well, but Don at EBS can certainly get you back on the road. |
Thanks for the info. Will look into that option.

I did just the opposite: 83 P&Cs in a 78. That way I combined the larger intake ports of the 78 with the higher CR 9.3:1 of the 83.
If you do P&C of a 78 in an 83 you get the lower compression 8.5:1 with the smaller intake ports, so performance will be lower. By how much I do not know exactly. |
