Screens in the crankcase, out or in?
I am working on a 1969 2.0 T motor and it had the old original screen doors in the bottom of the crankcase. My question is: should I put them back in or leave them out. I'd hate to see these old things come apart but they are not in bad shape. What do you think?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1419039373.jpg

I pulled mine out. I too feared them coming apart.

Does Porsche still use them in race engines?
If not....then the "windage" problem is probably not bad enough to need them. If the factory gets rid of them...so would I. Bob |
I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I'm assuming they are there to reduce sloshing and/or reduce foam build up. I remember reading that the scavenge side of the oil pumps were increased to battle foaming issues in the case.

Told Henry at Supertech a few years back that I needed my engine torn down because the builder left the screens out years ago (engine never run) and he told me to leave them out. He told me they weren't needed, and the edges fall apart.
