Pre-Install Oil Pressure/Leak Check

Finally about ready to install my freshly built engine in an `80 930.

Before installation, I’d like to crank the engine over to confirm oil pressure and, assuming there is pressure, check for oil leaks.

Any chance it’s as simple as securing the oil tank next to the engine and connecting the two (engine block oil line to the fitting that normally goes to the external thermostat)? If this can be done, any suggestions as to how much oil is required in order to create cranking pressure and provide adequate lubrication for the new components?
