3.0 how would you rebuild??

Getting ready to tear down my 3.0 and still havnt figured out whether to put back stock or change cams, go to carbs and up the compression. Would be interested in finding out what has worked well for you guys.I have reviewed the choices in Wayne's book for a 3.0 and was just curious if there where some other good combinations out there that would give me reliability and a little performance.

It all depends on how you want to use it! Once you know, really know, you can then get the proper advice. Strictly street? Street and track? Track Only? Every application and list of parts to get there will be a bit different.

I too am curious as I have a 1983 911SC with a 3.0L that I want to enhance. I read on another thread that I can go as big as Mahle 3.5 cylinders and pistons with my 3.0.

I need to research cams and other bits but I want more grunt and a better audible note.

Interesting read on a 3.2 rebuild that is applicable to a 3.0L

By the way, is there an easy way to tell if my engine is an SC, 3.2L or Carrera?

I am told it is a Carrera.

What's your budget?

I am in the middle of my 3.0 rebuild. Added Webers, 964 cams with headers. You can search my username to check out my rebuild.

One thing I realized quickly is that a basic rebuild will set you back a minimum of 5 grand and if you add a new set of P/Cs and a ton of machine work you can easily double or triple that number.

Started my 3.0 build. 98mm p&c's with 10.5:1, DC80 cams, dual plug big port 78 heads, PMO 46, headers. Going into my 904. Should be a rocket ship.

Mreid, when is you 904 due to be completed? Would like to know how that will work out for you.

Rusty, middle of March, but on the road in early May.
