MFI Throttle Body Inspection?

I'm humming and hawing about sending my '70 MFI throttle bodies out for repair. Its not cheap. The bill on the pump is going to be staggering. I'm rebuilding an engine that I have never run so their performance is unknown. Is there some recommended inspection checks? The shafts don't seem loose/sloppy but there is some shallow grooves in spots near the butterflies. Thanks.

Hi Matt,

You would require a flow bench in order to verify condition of the bore and throttle plate.

Also, if the throttle bodies have been sitting for extended time, the oils in the bearing solidify. Once back on the car and running for a week or so all that oil breaks down and the play is very much there.

1969 thru 1971 all had very soft bushing material that wore prematurely. 1972 and up had a Very nice bushing that lasted very well.

You make some good points. I'll just send them out and get them done right. Thanks.

Here is a gratuitous shot of a set of 1969 throttle bodies and stacks that I rebuilt and restored to as close to factory specs as reasonably possible.

Set of 2.5ST Throttle bodies I completed last year
