what to do with the 2.7 engine?
Hi guys
My dreamcar is the 930 as it probably is for many of us in here, but not all of us can afford it. Now I've found a widebody conversion that looks like a million bucks, only thing it has a 2.7 in it. I've read about the problems the engine has had and now wondering if there's something you can do about it or is it just a disaster waiting to happen? Maybe there's upgrades? Tnx |
Do you have any history of what has already been done to that 2.7? What is its current condition? Do you have compression and leakdown values? Perhaps many of the upgrades are already done.
The upgrades are well documented on this forum and in our host's engine rebuilding book. However, the cost of rebuilding a 2.7 is high and it may be more economical to purchase a 3.0 or similar. I rebuilt the 2.7 in my Targa and it runs beautifully (though it was not inexpensive). No overheating, no leaks, pulls strong. |
Plenty you can do about it. Find out what has been done already before formulating any plan of action. You may be fine as-is.

I am no expert but I have read of th issues and have read that they are good strong engines. It can be assumed that it has made it many years and is still running. Does it have the old original thermal reactors and 5 blade fan? If not, it has had a Few upgrades that will have helped it live much longer.
